Annual Meeting Awards- A Description

Each year the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, along with the Chamber Board of Directors, Ambassador groups, and committees; present a series of awards to thank those who have made an indelible mark on the Kearney area with their progress, contributions, and volunteer hours. We have compiled a short explanation of each award along with the 2018 award winners.

Friend of Kearney: The Friend of Kearney Award was created in 1987 by the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Envoys and is designed to honor a Kearney area individual or couple who has been a Friend of Kearney through his or her community leadership and contributions. This award recognizes the potential of all area residents as valued members and leaders of the Kearney area.


2018 Winner: Ron Bielenberg


Youth Friend of Kearney: The Youth Friend of Kearney Award was created by the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Envoys and is designed to honor a Kearney Youth who has been a Friend of Kearney through his or her community leadership and contributions. This award recognizes the potential of all area youth as valued members and leaders of the Kearney area.


2018 Winner: Max Rademacher


Young Professional of the Year: Young Professionals are vital to the growth and progress of our Kearney community. They are leaders in their field and they inspire their peers to excel. Where there is a vibrant and engaged young professional population, there will be bright leaders for tomorrow.

  • The Young Professionals of the Year award strives to recognize the accomplishments of young professionals in the Kearney Area by highlighting their advancement in their field, as well as their significant contributions to attract, retain, and engage young professionals in the Kearney community.

  • Must be between the ages of 21 - 40

  • Nominees are not required to be a member of the Kearney Young Professionals Network

  • Nominees must have at least 1 or more years of professional experience in current career

  • Nominees must be advancing their field and the quality of life in Kearney in a positive and productive way

  • Strong Nominees are involved in community, civic, charitable activities in the community and/or involved in their church

  • Nominees shall clearly serve as a role model for others personally and professionally

  • Nominees demonstrate strong leadership skills.


2018 Winner: Allie Marchand

Leadership Kearney Distinguished Alumni:

  • Be an alumnus of Adult or Youth Leadership Kearney. A list of Leadership Kearney Alumni appears on the Leadership Kearney website under Alumni Program.

  • Be nominated by a fellow Leadership Kearney Alumnus.

  • Have established an outstanding record of leadership contributing to the betterment of Kearney, the region or the nation and/or a strong record of leadership within the Leadership Kearney program.


2018 Winner: Paul Kenney


Outstanding Business of the Year: The Outstanding Business of the Year Award is intended to recognize the contributions of businesses to the growth of the Kearney area. To be eligible for the Outstanding Business of the Year Award, all applicants must meet the following criteria.

  • Be a current member in good standing of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce for a minimum of two years.

  • Have completed a minimum of three years in business.

  • Show growth in sales, services and/or growth in number of individuals served and expanded programs and services.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethical business practices.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to employee support, development and diversity.

  • Demonstrate community involvement/leadership.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to utilizing resources in the Kearney area to help your business grow.

The Outstanding Business of the Year award is designed to recognize the important role businesses play in our community. Through the award process, businesses are recognized for growth, creativity, community involvement and leadership.


2018 Winner: West Pharmaceutical Services


New Business of the Year: Any new business who has joined in the past year is eligible for this award. The Chamber Board of Directors takes a look at involvement through the Chamber committees, sponsorships, etc and also how the business has affected the Kearney community. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge new businesses who have put effort into not only growing their business but also building our community through involvement and leadership.

2018 Winner: Maverick Marketing


Small Business of the Year: This award is intended to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic growth of the Kearney area. The Small Business of the Year award is given by the Business Committee of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and is designed to recognize the important role small businesses play in our local economy. Through the award process, businesses are recognized for economic growth, creativity, community involvement and leadership. To be eligible for the Small Business of the Year Award, all applicants must meet the following criteria.

  • Be a current member in good standing of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce for a minimum of two years.

  • Have completed a minimum of three years in business

  • Have a minimum of three (3) employees and a maximum of fifty (50) employees

  • Show growth in sales, services and/or growth in number of individuals served and expanded programs and services

  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethical business practices

  • Demonstrate a commitment to employee support and development

  • Demonstrate community involvement/leadership

  • Demonstrate a commitment to utilizing resources in the Kearney area to help your business grow

Milestone Membership: This award recognizes any member who has been a member with the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce for 50+ years. Any member who has reached, 50, 60, or 75 years of membership will receive recognition at the Annual Meeting.
