The Kearney Area Animal Shelter hosted Business After Hours on the evening of October 3rd! They celebrated their grand re-opening just earlier this year in May as the 14-year-old shelter has a newly remodeled space and revamped volunteer program.
The Kearney Area Animal Shelter is supported by donations and earned user fees. A portion of their operating budget is provided by the City of Kearney and Buffalo County in exchange for housing animals picked up at large or held for court jurisdiction.
Just last year, assistant director Karla Wild, the public art project and fundraiser known as Save Our Tails began. This project features fiberglass figures of cats and dogs that are decorated by area artists and finishing touches are applied by area businesses. Save Our Tails was created to benefit the shelter and raise awareness for animal adoption while reminding Kearney citizens of the mission and values of the Kearney Area Animal Shelter.
Statues will be displayed at area businesses until they are auctioned at the Moonlight Masquerade Gala on October 25th. Tickets are available at the Kearney Area Animal Shelter location and cocktail attire with festive masks are strongly encouraged! Click here to find out more information.
A donation to the KAAS directly impacts animals in our community. 66% of their budget comes from generous donations, so contributions stays local! There is no time limit set on animals in the care of KAAS. They partner with other animal welfare organizations and specialized rescues to help find loving homes for all animals. Since the shelter opened in 2005, it has found new homes for over 8,000 animals and returned nearly 6,000 pets to their owners. The shelter can accommodate a total of 150 animals.
The Kearney Area Animal Shelter is located at 3205 West Hwy 30.
