C&C - NE VETERANS FIRST & CNVH

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

As restrictions have lifted and social gatherings have become more welcoming, the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce took the opportunity to have their first Coffee & Company with the Nebraska Veterans First Committee and the Central Nebraska Veterans Home. This warm and inviting event took place in the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Board Room on June 23, 2021. Those who attended were fortunate to visit with Vail Oleson, the newly appointed Administrator as of December 5, 2020.

The Nebraska Veterans First is an organization managed by and created for veterans. Their purpose is to raise awareness and funds for the many resources that provide a great quality of life for the members. Those resources include the pond, library, chapel, woodshop, ceramic workshop, veteran’s memorial, and occupational/physical therapy. The organization continues to help provide for the members and their families where they are needed.

Currently, the Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial Committee is working to construct a Veterans Memorial to honor Nebraskans who served, fought, and died for this great nation. The memorial will be based on educational and historical perspectives to honor those who have served in all military branches of service and military conflicts undertaken beginning with the Civil War. Due to supply shortages, the finalization of the project may not conclude until late summer. Once the Memorial is completed, the committee will announce a dedication date.

The Central Nebraska Veterans Home (CNVH) is one of Nebraska’s four veteran’s homes. They are fully equipped with 225 beds and fully skilled nursing staff. The CNVH is composed of six individual neighborhoods, each containing three homes that serve 12-15 guests. All homes include their own kitchen, dining area, living room, den with a library, private dining room, spa room, and patio with a gazebo.

The amazing services provided at CNVH consist of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Restorative Nursing Therapy, Hospice/ Palliative Care, and Memory Support Care.

Guests and their families can enjoy the many amenities that are available within walking distance of their front door. These features include hobby activities such as a woodshop, library, crafts, and computers with Wi-Fi access. There are even activities for the outdoor lover to include walking paths and a beautiful lake with its own fishing pier access. Services from the Chapel, Clinic, Fox Hole Canteen, and Salon are also offered for members and their guests.

If you would like to join the CNVH family, they are currently hiring in many different positions. On-site CNA training may be available. If interested, please contact Nancy Klimek at (308)865-3421. There are also plenty of non-CNA-related positions available as well.

To schedule a visit to this facility, visit www.veterans.nebraska.gov/cnvh or call (308) 865-3457. The Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home is located at 4510 E 56th Street, Kearney, NE 68847.
