Say hello to Charlie Ann Wuehler. Charlie and her husband Garret have called Kearney home for the past eight years, and in that time, they’ve truly grown to love everything about this community, from its small-town charm to its ever-growing opportunities.
The couple first came to Kearney for work shortly after graduating college. While jobs can be found just about anywhere, Charlie says it’s the people and the culture of Kearney that made them stay, and more importantly, what inspired them to raise their daughter here. “We love the growing culture, the small town with big opportunities approach, and more importantly, the people we share our life with,” she shared.
When they’re not working, you can often find the Wuehler family enjoying some quality time at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course or grabbing a bite at their favorite local spot, Jerseys Sports Bar and Grill. Whether it's cheering on a football game or catching up with friends, they love making memories around town.
For Charlie, one of the best parts of living in Kearney is being able to enjoy the city’s beautiful parks and trails. She also encourages more folks to check out hidden gems like the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center and the SportsPlex, two places that have become favorites for her family.
Community involvement is also a big part of Charlie’s life. From volunteering with Junior Achievement to being active with the Kearney Area Chamber Board and the YMCA, she loves finding ways to give back and connect with others.
When asked to describe Kearney in one word, Charlie chose “Progressive.” She’s proud of how the city continues to grow while holding on to the values that make it feel like home. “Kearney sees the value in change and expansion,” she said, “and I’m really proud of the businesses, opportunities, and resources our community brings in.”
One thing she especially appreciates as a parent is the educational opportunities available right here in town, from elementary school all the way through college. “Our daughter can complete all of her education locally if she chooses. Having access to both the community college and UNK makes post-secondary education feel attainable while staying close to home.”
