After six years of residing in the Hilltop Mall, the bakery and gourmet cupcake shop, Smallcakes, celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 4th at its new location, 2222 2nd Ave, Kearney.

There are two locations in Nebraska, both are family owned. Papillion opened in June of 2014 and Kearney opened in August 2015. RaChell Merklin and her husband, Kerri, own the Kearney location with Mike and Twila Knaggs. Mayor Stan Clouse supports their ongoing business success and expansion by saying, “This is the second ribbon cutting I’ve been a part of (for Smallcakes). Next time it might be a stand alone building, you never know!”

Delicious comes in many shapes and sizes at this establishment! From a small sampling, such as cake pops or mini cupcakes to something a little larger, like jumbo cupcakes or a milkshake made straight from your favorite cupcake, Smallcakes caters to every customer. RaChell included “Even though our name is Smallcakes, we make big cakes too!” As something they didn’t have the space to do at the mall, they can now offer cakes to-go. Flavors of to-go cakes include Wedding Cake, Peanut Butter Cup, Cookies n Cream, and Fun Fetti. They also offer custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Customers are encouraged to bring in an idea of what they desire in their special occasion cake, and Smallcakes will be sure to impress!

They have a variety of menu options, to include gluten free options and fun treats called Pupcakes, made special for the fur babies in every family. Smallcakes prides itself on offering a great product and outstanding customer service.
